GAMEPLAY:
==========

WORLD MAP - All 6 levels always available a-la megaman so all teams have potentially equal exposure. Individual "donate" buttons so players can donate to the levels they like best. (Paypal links? Any better options?)

Possible ultimate final boss after all 6 levels beaten? (a-la dr. wily?)

CONTROLS -
Fire button (if laser equipped, hold down to charge for larger blast)
"Special" button (empties special bar, applies equipped "special" upgrade)
Arrows
Mouse for pause menu/upgrades/level select

VOICE ACTING -
Lots of "announcer" clips encouraging/taunting player
Bosses talk and taunt you, roar, laugh, etc.

HUD -
Life bar
Special bar, fills up as you kill stuff, enemy drops "special" replenishers

LEVELS -
Each level either side scrolling shmup or vertical top down shmup (alternating)

PHASE I: Smaller enemies, avoidance obstacles. Enemies leave coins/gems/monetary units behind when destroyed.

PHASE II: Boss fight (HUGE boss, bullet hell, multiple forms possible). Boss, when detroyed, leaves tons of coins to collect before level ends.

UPGRADES: Pause game at any time to apply upgrades. Buy upgrades using the coins/whatever you have collected from enemies. Store looks kinda like iphone app store (see sketch). Once an item is bought, you drag and drop it onto target areas on ship to apply it. So, front gun, side guns, etc can have their own bullet type. Bullet modifiers like size/rapid can be layered on top of stock behaviors.

Floating guns buyable and customizable in pause menu.

BULLET IDEAS:

Stock Bullets:
- Double shot
- Shotgun/spread
- Heat seaking
- Flame thrower (short range powerful)
- Wall crawlers (shoot up/down and hug walls)
- Lightning
- Laser (hold down fire to charge)
- Shrapnel (hit enemy and split into more bullets)

Modifiers:
- Size variations (bigger bullets do more damage)
- Rapid Fire
- Reverse fire (makes gun shoot behind you instead of forward)
- (maybe spread goes here?)

Ship Enhancements:
- Shield (reduces bullet impact damage)
- Total life increase
- Ship repair (ship heals over time if you avoid damage)
- Magnetic money grabber (sucks money toward ship)
- Speed increase
- Floating ship pods (guns that float outside of ship)

Specials:
- "Death Blossom" (from last starfighter, spins ship around and fires tons of different bullets in all directions [ would have to have a special key combo or key assigned ])
- Avalanche (boulders fall across screen)
- Dragon (sends a slithering dragon across screen killing enemies it hits)
- Heal (restore life)
- Invincible (become invincible for a short time)
- Speed boost
- Reflect (reflect bullets back at enemies)
- Matrix slow motion (slow all movements except yours)



DEATH: Would like to avoid the 1-hit kill brutal arcade paradigm...something more casual-friendly so players have high-chance of seeing all levels+bosses.

Ideas:
- Life-bar for multiple hits
- Lots of lives (don't lose applied upgrades on death, just lose money?)
- Checkpoints - re-start level at boss
- Maintain applied upgrades and money between levels
- Lots of health drops
